Welder - 2nd shift

Under direct supervision, joins, fabricates and repairs metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques. Interprets blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate welding process. Inspects completed welds to determine structural soundness. Years of Experience: 0-3 years

Operates Mig welding machine to join two or more pieces of metal to build merchandise display racks.  Sets up machine loading the welding wire and adjusting to proper temperature.  Loads parts in fixture and welds in place.  Unloads welded part from fixture and performs visual quality inspection.  Stacks welded parts onto skid or into basket for transport to next process.  Maintains continuous count of parts produced utilizing written labor rate sheet and personal computer.  Removes excess weld and blisters using air grinder.

  3. Loading and unloading weld fixtures
  4. Performing visual inspections
  5. Maintaining production records
  6. Reporting to work regularly and on time.
  7. Communicating with Lead or Supervisor for instructions – fluent English is essential.

 

Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 3 months welding experience at Vulcan Industries.
  • Perform 4 basic math operations with all units of measure.
  • Ability to read work order specification sheets.
  • Ability to write simple sentences, series of numbers, names, and addresses.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly.
  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have basic computer skills.

 

Other Skills

  • Ability to operate or learn to operate various machines, such as: Welding machine, heat gauges, hammer, wire cutters, air grinders.

           

Working Conditions

  • Inside, non-climate controlled environment, variable work days and hours.  Some noise and vibration. Exposure to flash burns to eyes, smoke from welder. Overtime will be required.

 

Physical Demands

  • Lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Prolonged standing
  • Climb and balance.
  • Kneeling, crouching, stooping

 

Performance Standards Required

  • Producing welded parts that meet efficiency and quality standards and complying with company work and safety regulations.
