Reporting to the VP of Product, the Researcher will lead user-centric research for our entire line of products – both physical and digital – to gain actionable insights about our customers, and to align product priorities to business goals. The Researcher will conduct both primary and secondary research, hire and manage outside research firms, analyze and synthesize data, and prepare reports and dashboards. The Researcher will work with product managers, software engineering, and UX professionals. You will combine your qualitative methods, quantitative analysis, and behavioral science to impact all stages of product development.
Qualifications:
General
- Bachelor's degree in cognitive or experimental psychology, human-computer interaction, human factors, or related field
- Working knowledge of statistics and quantitative behavioral analysis
- Experience conducting multiple different methods of research; ex: survey design, ethnography, focus group, UI evaluation
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience across all research types/methodologies
- Ability to translate research findings into actionable data-driven recommendations
- Ability to work independently
- Comfortable with complex and often ambiguous needs
- Ability to perform competitive and comparative analysis and research
- Able to successfully collaborate and work with the larger UX and product teams
- Able to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
UX
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience as UX/Product Researcher or a similar role
- Experience with qualitative and user-centered design methodologies
- Experience evaluating mobile applications
- Understanding of User Interface (UI) design
- Competent in planning and executing remote and in-person usability testing
- Ability to convey ideas visually with UX via low-fidelity wireframes
Day to day you may:
- Dive deep with our customers to understand their needs and help our product teams turn those insights into new and innovative opportunities to impact the business
- Join an empathetic UX team that understands and fiercely advocates for our user within our product team
- Lead high-level, strategic research initiatives utilizing innovative research methods and experiments to help drive product direction for the organization
- Partner with Product Owners, Product Managers, and Designers to design research methodologies and understand customer needs and opportunities
- Analyze current gathered data using Excel, Tableau and/or similar tools to interpret user data
- Own the user research process for your products throughout the product lifecycle, from problem definition and research planning to synthesis and stakeholder buy-in
- Collaborate with UX designers and test workflows and prototypes with users
- Plan, conduct, and facilitate user research sessions such as user interviews, contextual inquiry, co-creation workshops, data analysis, lean experimentation, surveys, etc.
- Use high-level strategic thinking and analysis for both early-stage concepts and established products
- Review data and compile insights from multiple data sources (Zendesk, Yotpo, Bazaarvoice, social media) to better inform product development
- Help mentor and guide product teams on the value of user research and design
- Work with team leadership to set the research and development roadmap
- Draw on research literature to advise the team in taking scientifically informed and well-considered risks in our pursuit of solutions to complex technical problems
