Job Summary
Approves work product of Levels 1, 2 and 3 technicians. Reviews layouts and detailed drawings, sketches, and diagrams. Project details include all product views and dimensions necessary for manufacturing/development. Reviews and approves copies of drawings and documents design changes. Possess a familiarity of CAD/CAM (computer aided manufacturing) equipment and relationship of CAD to CAM.
Maintains safe work environment by monitoring safety procedures and equipment. Informs designated employees of problems encountered. Collaborates with workers and managers to solve work-related problems. Responsible for the efficiency and effectiveness of general labor team. Manages performance. Directs and coordinates activities concerned with production of company product(s) by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate Unit supervisors.
Job Responsibilities
- Deliver and improve tooling to support existing and new products that meet agreed upon targets for quality, cost, schedule and safety. Lead, Plan, Do, and Control projects. Provide technical leadership, judgment and guidance for company operations.
- Identify, plan and lead the implementation of new tooling to support new product introductions.
- Write Capital requests, track spending and schedules.
- Lead the planning for problem solving, replacement and improvement of existing tooling.
- Lead & coordinate pre-production work of tooling qualification.
- Do process capability studies of existing and new processes.
- Do safety audits & reviews of existing tooling.
- Plan and lead pre-production trial runs of new and revised tooling.
- Working with quality, assure process capability to sustain quality standards.
- Do the tool design and lead the tool making process.
- Assure adequate documentation for new tools.
- Assist in making prototype parts and tooling.
- Participate in design reviews of new products / processes
- Lead technical problem solving.
- Do tool design work using CAD / CAM tools
- Project communications and reporting
- Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods.
- Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
- Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
- Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
- Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
- Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
Job Requirements
- Associate Degree or Certification in Tool and Die making required.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in manufacturing processes.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Understands complex problems and collaborates to explore alternatives.
- Organizes and prioritizes work to effectively manage multiple projects.
