Job Summary

Our cameras live outdoors year-round — strapped to trees, bolted to feeders, exposed to heat, cold, rain, and years of use — and our users trust them to work every time. The Senior Reliability & Compliance Engineer owns the promise behind that trust: making sure every product survives the field and carries every certification it needs before it ships.

This is a dual-mandate role. On one side, you're building and running the reliability test program — defining test plans, setting acceptance criteria, and driving root cause analysis when something fails. On the other, you own the full certification lifecycle — from mapping what's required for a product, to managing test labs and carrier relationships, to certificate in hand. You'll work directly with ODM/JDM partners, external test labs, carriers, and regulatory bodies, and you'll be the person the Program Manager and engineering leadership count on for a clear, honest picture of where every test and certification stands.

Job Responsibilities

Reliability Engineering & Testing

  • Build reliability test plans covering environmental, mechanical, electrical, and operational stress — temperature cycling, humidity, vibration, drop, ingress protection, HALT/HASS, and long-duration endurance testing.
  • Set reliability requirements and pass/fail acceptance criteria at the start of each program, and carry them through Prototype, EVT, DVT, PVT, and mass production.
  • Own the ODM/JDM relationship for test execution — turn test plans into work packages, give the test team technical direction, and hold them to protocol without deviation.
  • Lead root cause investigation on test failures and field escapes, and work with mechanical, electrical, and firmware engineering to close the gap before launch, verifying every fix through re-test.
  • Maintain a reliability risk register tracking open failure modes, corrective action status, and residual risk through every phase of development.
  • Build and maintain reliability models and failure rate estimates, and track field reliability data after launch to catch systemic trends before they show up in the next generation.

Regulatory & Certification Strategy

  • Maintain a complete certification requirement matrix for every product — carrier certifications (AT&T, FirstNet, T-Mobile, Verizon, PTCRB, GCF), government and regulatory approvals (FCC Part 15/22/24/27, IC Canada, CE/RED, RoHS, REACH, PFAS, WEEE, UL/IEC safety standards), and channel partner requirements (retailer qualification programs, private label and co-branding obligations).
  • Build a certification execution plan for each product: what's required, who reviews it, what the submission package needs, lead time, cost, and target completion date.
  • Own the relationships that feed this work — carrier partner contacts, regulatory bodies, test labs, and channel partner program managers — and stay ahead of changing requirements.
  • Run pre-certification testing (pre-scan EMC, SAR, carrier protocol conformance) to catch problems before they hit a formal lab submission.
  • Prepare and coordinate certification submission packages, technical files, test reports, labeling artwork, and regulatory declarations.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • CRE (Certified Reliability Engineer) or other regulatory compliance credentials are a plus.
  • 7+ years of reliability and/or compliance engineering experience in consumer electronics, IoT, or outdoor/field-deployed hardware.
  • Hands-on experience developing reliability test plans and running HALT, HASS, accelerated life testing, drop/shock, IP testing, and thermal/humidity cycling.
  • Direct experience obtaining FCC certifications (Part 15, 22/24/27) and familiarity with the TCB submission process.
  • Hands-on experience with PTCRB and/or GCF certification for cellular devices, including module vs. device-level certification dependencies.
  • Familiarity with carrier device approval programs for at least one major US carrier (AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon).
  • Working knowledge of CE/RED, RoHS, REACH, WEEE, IC Canada, and other international regulatory requirements for connected devices sold in North America and Europe.
  • Experience managing external test labs and certification bodies — scope negotiation, scheduling, and results review.
  • Experience managing channel partner compliance requirements, including retailer qualification programs and private label obligations.
  • Strong understanding of relevant standards: IEC 60068, IEC 62368, IEC 60529 (IP ratings), MIL-STD-810, JEDEC.
  • Comfortable reading schematics, mechanical drawings, and test reports, and translating standards into product specs and test criteria.
  • Experience building and maintaining project tracking dashboards (Excel, Power BI, Smartsheet, Notion, Airtable, or similar) with a focus on milestone visibility and lead-time risk.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills — you can run multiple certification tracks at once and give a Program Manager clean, reliable data without being asked twice.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with LTE-M or NB-IoT device certifications and carrier IoT-specific approval tracks.
  • Familiarity with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi (FCC Part 15B/E), and multi-radio certification.
  • Battery safety experience (IEC 62133, UN 38.3) for battery-powered devices.
  • Background in camera, trail camera, or outdoor/ruggedized consumer electronics.
  • Exposure to CTIA or similar industry qualification programs.
  • Experience with reliability data analysis and failure rate modeling (Weibull or similar).
  • Familiarity with Amazon, Walmart, or other major retailer compliance programs (Amazon Device Certification, Walmart PEARL).
  • Experience with PLM or document management systems for certification records across product revisions.
  • Familiarity with APAC-based ODM/JDM partner management.

Essential Job Function

What Success Looks Like

In your first 90 days, you'll have:

  • Built a complete certification requirement matrix for the current product roadmap — every carrier, regulatory, and channel partner obligation with a required-by date.
  • Set a reliability test plan for the current development build and gotten the ODM on a test execution schedule.
  • Stood up a working compliance and reliability dashboard that the Program Manager and engineering leadership actually use.
  • Flagged any certification lead-time risk on the current program, with the schedule impact spelled out.
