Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

Job Summary

We are looking for a mid to senior level Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, and operate our cloud environments, with a primary focus on Microsoft Azure. This role owns the reliability, scalability, and security of the infrastructure that powers our products, and partners closely with Software Engineering, DevOps, and Security to keep our platform performant and resilient as we grow. Azure experience is required. You'll be hands-on with infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and cost optimization, while also mentoring junior engineers and helping shape our infrastructure roadmap. This role reports to the Platform Development Manager, with day-to-day technical direction from the Cloud Architect.

Job Responsibilities

Cloud Infrastructure & Azure Operations

• Design, deploy, and manage scalable, secure cloud infrastructure on Microsoft Azure, including compute, networking, storage, and identity (Azure AD/Entra ID) services.

• Own the day-to-day operation and optimization of Azure resource groups, subscriptions, and virtual networks, ensuring high availability across production environments.

• Implement and maintain Azure networking constructs (VNets, VNet peering, ExpressRoute/VPN gateways, NSGs, Azure Firewall) to support secure, performant connectivity.

• Support multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud initiatives as needed (AWS or GCP exposure a plus), while maintaining Azure as the primary platform of expertise.

• Manage cloud cost optimization efforts, including rightsizing resources, reserved instance planning, and Azure Cost Management reporting. 

Automation & Infrastructure as Code 

• Build and maintain infrastructure as code using Bicep/ARM templates to provision and manage Azure environments consistently and repeatably.

• Own and improve CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar) to support reliable, automated application and infrastructure deployments.

• Automate routine operational tasks — patching, scaling, backups, and configuration management — using scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python) and Azure automation tooling.

• Collaborate with software engineering teams to facilitate and support the completion of feature work through infrastructure engineering.

Reliability, Monitoring & Incident Response 

• Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights to maintain visibility into system health and performance.

• Participate in on-call rotation, responding to and resolving infrastructure incidents, and driving rootcause analysis and post-incident reviews.

• Define and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans for critical cloud infrastructure.

• Partner with Security to implement cloud security best practices, including IAM least-privilege access, network segmentation, and compliance with internal security standards. 

Job Requirements

• 4-7+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or systems engineering roles, with demonstrated progression to mid/senior-level scope.

• Required: hands-on production experience with Microsoft Azure, including core compute, networking, storage, and Azure Active Directory/Entra ID. • Solid experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates) and versioncontrolled, repeatable infrastructure deployments.

• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar).

• Proficiency scripting in at least one of PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation.

• Working knowledge of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes/AKS). • Experience with monitoring and observability tooling (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, or equivalent).

• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, load balancing, VPNs, firewalls) and cloud security best practices.

• Strong troubleshooting skills and comfort operating in an on-call rotation for production systems.

• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical tradeoffs to both engineering peers and non-technical stakeholders.

• Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach other engineers, collaborate effectively across crossfunctional teams, and build consensus on technical decisions. 

Essential Job Function

• Microsoft Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert).

• Experience with multi-cloud environments (AWS, GCP) in addition to Azure.

• Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).

• Experience in a SaaS or subscription-based product environment where uptime and performance are directly tied to customer experience.

• Exposure to cost optimization and FinOps practices in cloud environments.

• Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading small technical initiatives.
