The Sr. Software Engineer role will be part of a high-performing team at the center of transformative work, pushing themselves and others to take advantage of continuous improvement opportunities and implementing the latest technologies and architecture.   The engineer will be responsible for delivering and maintaining an agile large scale enterprise development infrastructure, which provides a rapid and reliable deployment mechanism for new features in support of a wide range of EBSCO products. This role will be responsible for enabling teams to continuously deliver software, providing quick feedback with respect to the capability, and upholding the integrity of the evolving end-to-end solution. The products and services that you will help create provide access to academic, scientific, medical, and consumer resources that inform the world -- advancing research in traditional and emerging fields and transforming learning and education.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise and leadership on system architecture, design, implementation, testing, delivery, and operation of premium EBSCO products. 
  • Work directly with product management and your team while analyzing and decomposing complex software requirements into simple user stories for planning and execution. 
  • Collaborate with your team to manage and estimate the size and complexity of the features.  Perform the technical design, implementation, and testing of features and commit to stories to be accomplished in a sprint. 
  • Be a primary technical leader on the team for a broad range of product features, responsible for ensuring that development activities are coordinated throughout the development cycle achieving scalable, automated solutions for our customer base. 
  • Mentor other engineers on the team in broad areas including coding, design for performance and testability, and process. 
  • Assist other teams as a key representative of the team/features/technology. 
  • Own system and feature quality throughout the development, testing and deployment phases to ensure quality delivery expectations are met. 
  • Drive value and build to continuously improve the quality of the team’s deliverables. Author well-engineered solutions using test-first/test-driven methodologies.  
  • Conduct new technology research, proof of concept, and design work that will provide direction for the enhancement of the overall system and products. 
  • Provide ongoing maintenance, support and enhancements in existing systems and platforms. 
  • Model and Contribute to the continuous improvement of your team.  
  • Model the practice of and assist other Software Engineers applying best practices for design, coding standards, performance, security, delivery, and maintainability. 
  • Demonstrate ownership of developed components from development through production. 
  • Exemplify the principles behind the agile manifesto and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) in all interactions. 


Required Qualifications

  • ·         Bachelor’s degree in computer science, MIS, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • ·         Proficiency of the AWS Platform and AWS provisioning and management tools
  •          Experience in orchestration tools such as: Kubernetes, Istio, Docker
  • ·         Experience or background in Build and Release Engineering, automated build systems and continuous delivery pipelines such as Jenkins, AWS CodeBuild
  • ·         Competency using languages and tools/frameworks such as: Python, C#, Java and NodeJS, Ansible, Terraform
  • ·         Practical knowledge of observability tooling such as: Prometheus, Grafana, AppDynamics, SumoLogic, ElasticSearch
  • ·         Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • ·         Excellent problem-solving skills
  • ·         Self-directed, demonstrates leadership and a team player


Skills or Experience that Set you Apart

  • Automated integration, acceptances and/or contract driven test scenarios
  • Microservices and microservice design patterns and architecture; experience with Istio
  • Performance testing, security and quality strategies and techniques; experience with SonarQube, CheckMarx, SauceLabs, Vault
  • Web services lifecycle, API versioning and design
  • Experience using source control systems; such as GitHub, Subversion, BitBucket
  • Enthusiasm and adaptability for working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Experience with evaluating and integrating open source and in-house developed toolsets
  • Passionate about learning new technologies
