The Consumer Health team creates evidence-based patient education material. The materials are used as point-of-care tools for medical care centers and hospitals, as an online health library with direct consumer access for a variety of clients, or as patient education tools that compliment other EBSCO Health products.  


 

Our team needs a Patient Education Writer for a short-term project with potential for more work in the future. The candidate should have a background or interest in patient education, health and wellness, public health, or patient-provider communication. A strong understanding of health literacy, writing and editing experience, basic clinical knowledge, and a degree in a relevant field is needed.


This project will include patient education documents on medical conditions and procedures as well as health and wellness documents. Work will include incorporation of feedback from Health Editors and Clinical specialists. The Writer will ensure the articles will be evidence-based, follow company formats, and meet health literacy standards. Each article needs to help patients better understand medical issues to improve chances of active participation in care.  


 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Master preferred)
  • 3 years of writing experience related to patient education, health, and wellness that includes meeting health literacy guidelines, such as writing at 6th grade or below (or 1 year plus an advanced degree in a related field)
  • Demonstrated ability to write patient-friendly material

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated initiative and a strong work ethic
  • A strong desire to produce meaningful content, not just edit for style and format
  • Ability to self-manage multiple tasks and priorities within deadlines
