Machine Learning Engineering Intern

Project Goals

Work on improving existing classification models currently running at Ebsco. Today Ebsco has a recommendation engine powered by machine learning models that they want to improve in one or more of the following ways

- Improve the quality of the models

- Enable the model to apply to more data sources than they can today

Accurate and widely applicable classification is a key differentiator to Ebsco’s success, allowing Ebsco to provide more metadata so researchers using our products can more easily filter out irrelevant data

Learning goals for intern:

The intern will learn to work with stakeholders on understanding the current limitations of a recommendation engine, research and analyze proposals to improve the models to be able to have better accuracy and/or work for new scenarios while maintaining the model's existing capabilities in areas that are already meeting the desired outcome. Re-engineered models will need to iterate through the entire ML development life cycle in an enterprise setting, going from proof-of-concept experiments to deploying solutions in a live production environment while gaining vital skills in how academic concepts can be transformed into scalable enterprise solutions.

Specifically, the intern will assist with various ML tasks such as:

- Research methods to improve the models

- Feature Engineering

- Creation and testing of the Machine Learning models
