The Enterprise Architect role is an important and highly visible position within the EBSCO software development organization. The individual in this role is central to the creation, implementation and continuous evolution of an enterprise strategy which connects business and technical leadership in support of EBSCO’s Research Database and Discovery capabilities.

 

The Enterprise Architect articulates a deep understanding of current architecture at EBSCO and aligns with business and technical stakeholders to establish plans that achieve business objectives. These plans will continuously move the technical organization towards a set of reference architectures which enable teams to deliver stream-aligned value using tooling, patterns and standards that provide development and operational consistency. The person in this role will use Enterprise Modeling techniques to describe and communicate the current and future state of business and operational capabilities that are implemented by EBSCO applications and solutions. The Enterprise Architect helps the organization realize business opportunities more effectively and faster through the continuous evolution of the EBSCO Research Database and Discovery platform. The person in this role will use technical skills, business acumen, and creativity to provide governance, evangelism, and technical roadmap for the company.

In this role, the Enterprise Architect will use time-boxed internal consultative engagements to identify, implement, and socialize the creation of actionable capabilities and best practices for EIS Products & Business Units. This person will work with numerous product and platform specific Agile Release Trains (ARTs) to identify capabilities and guide their implementation. The successful candidate will use leadership skills, big picture vision, and will possess the drive to achieve success.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Understand drivers for EBSCO business capabilities and articulate the association to an evolving platform and application landscape required to effectively deliver these capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain an enterprise model describing EIS end-to-end business linked with the technical platform delivering customer solutions. · Use time-boxed internal consultative engagements on platform and other cross-cutting strategies, collaborating closely with business and technical stakeholders across the organization, and contributing output to enterprise roadmap.
  • Create and deliver high-level presentations to executive stakeholders that communicate enterprise strategy and plans.
  • Stay current with industry trends and market problems to inform enterprise strategy and technical direction.
  • Gain knowledge of EBSCO Research Database & Discovery products, platforms, and technical solutions to understand historic drivers, unique challenges, and potential roadblocks to future evolution.
  • Work with Legal & Security teams to understand regulatory environment. Stay current with regulatory and compliance issues, and ensure they are addressed in the enterprise roadmap.
  • Recommend opportunities for incorporating SaaS-based solutions and present build-vs-buy analysis.
  • Work with leadership to ensure that technical debt is visible and measured. Recommend debt-reduction measures that balance feature development, refactoring, rearchitecting, and operational improvement items.

Technical:

  • Understands modern cloud-based architectures, including concerns that are raised implementing and managing microservice architecture
  • Broad understanding of AWS services
  • Understands how to support multiple programming languages with associated polyglot development, build and runtime concerns

  • Ability to think broadly about end-to-end business goals and technical solutions
  • Identify upcoming opportunities or threats through industry trend analysis
  • Contribute strategic thinking to long-range planning
  • Able to structure and process qualitative or quantitative data and draw insightful conclusions from it

Communication & Presentation:

  • Able to effectively communicate and present complex concepts to technical and non-technical professionals · Able to communicate recommendations and direction as outcome of internal consultation engagement
  • Be willing to help solve problems by listening and connecting people across ARTs and teams, helping them find common solutions

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a computer science focus
  • 6+ years of relevant technology/product experience

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to understand the customer along with expert-level technical knowledge of software development
  • Experience setting long-term strategy for technical solutions
  • Solid understanding of key trends in software engineering (Cloud, User Interface, API)
  • Experience working with and designing solutions for cloud-based architectures

 

Target Annual Salary Range: $137,010 - $195,730.  This Pay Target range includes a bonus target of 5% of base salary. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, education, training, and experience, as well as the position’s work location.
