Data Science Product Manager for Search Platform

The Search Platform is currently seeking a Product Manager for the EBSCO Search Data Science Teams. Leading ethical and data-driven product development, this role primarily focuses on operationalizing machine learning, sensemaking from research publications, driving semantic search roadmap strategy, and expanding the EBSCO knowledge graph applications. Additional focus will be on creating best practice and guidelines for development teams, proposing new use cases for data science in the Search domain, and working with the larger Search domain teams to drive customer-focused KPIs for the academic, K-12, public library, medical and corporate markets which Search serves.

Responsibilities:

As a product manager, you will work on a variety of data products, both internally and externally facing, by:

  • Analyze machine learning and graph pipelines, models, throughput, and data science findings
  • Keeping up to date and strategizing on the implementation of current data science approaches to improve sensemaking and search results.
  • Working with the larger Search and other EIS teams to collaborate on product solutions.
  • Understand data streams and pipelines to ensure currency and integrity.
  • Adapt business goals to actionable Features and User Stories in Agile and drive them to completion.
  • Analyze and capture data science use-cases for the entire value stream (operations through end-user).
  • Maintain models and related artifacts of search contexts, behaviors, system components.
  • Investigate issues reported by customers and communicate root cause of issues.
  • Ability to summarize findings, strategy, and direction at all levels, from C-suite to developers.
  • Assemble and report on data science key performance indicators (KPI).
  • Apply data driven approach to understand how changes in search features impact customers and business outcomes.

Skills 

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree or higher in computer science, statistics, semantics, information science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Product Manager focusing on data-intensive applications and solutions.
  • 2+ years of working with AWS, specifically ElasticSearch, SageMaker, AWS Step-functions, and big data processing using AWS native solutions.
  • Familiarity with Python libraries such as sklearn, gensim, spacy, and pytorch
  • Demonstrated experience driving long-range data strategy and product roadmaps
  • Ability to clearly condense complex business problems into requirements for engineering teams
  • Strong communication skills and ability to indirectly influence stakeholders
  • Understanding of different types of machine learning algorithms and techniques and how to measure performance and quality
  • Familiarity with different database types – relational, NoSQL, Graph, etc
  • Ability to communicate findings and recommendations to non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience mining insights from unstructured text and structured publication data.
  • Experience with deploying machine learning models at scale.
  • Experience with query languages (SPARQL, GraphQL, GQL, OpenCypher)
  • Experience with large scale ETL and ELT
