The mission of the Agile Software Development Manager is to be a leader who guides, coaches, and mentors a team of Infrastructure and Database engineers in the Design and Development support to delivery teams, and operation of the Cloud Platform capabilities which are used by Engineering teams throughout EIS.

 

This person will help design, develop, and maintain database architecture and code initiatives supporting internal and third-party software solutions, delivering excellent products in scope and on time, and meeting current and long-term business needs for the business area. Participate in a team of motivated, driven, high-energy developers, building trust and confidence with team members and business stakeholders. Lead, mentor, and coach database developers to build stronger and faster teams.


This role is primarily focused on the leadership and development of people and engineering practices that enable self-directed teams to successfully execute their goals within an Agile organization and in support of corporate vision and strategy. 

 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Agile Development Manager for two database-focused teams (~4 to 8 engineers each), focusing on team development, growth, efficiency, process, technical excellence, organization, and meeting business objectives.
  • Act as a servant leader enabling teams to maximize the value they can deliver to the business. 
  • Work directly with product owners, program team, scrum masters, technical support teams, and business representatives to support technical and business solutions from inception to operation.
  • Develop and maintain a strong component ownership and RACI model to ensure that teams own the quality and software craftsmanship of the products they produce.
  • Lead accountability, autonomy, and empowerment within the teams.
  • Actively manage the AWS spend for workloads for which your team is responsible and ensure AWS costs are fully optimized.
  • Cloud-based Database development experience
  • AWS features and infrastructure is a plus
  • Expertise with Oracle /Microsoft SQL Server, SSMS, T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS, etc.
  • Experience in solutions for automating database infrastructure deployments and SQL workflows using Jenkins , Flyaway, liquibase or terraform.
  • Manage 3rd party and Contractors /level 1 team and set expectations
  • Attract, recruit, retain, and develop top engineering talent.
  • Review the performance of individual team members and provide effective coaching to cultivate engineering leaders.
  • Hold regular meetings with each team to analyze metrics and understand how their components are operating in all environments.
  • Advocate for the team and promote their successes, celebrate their failures, and share key learnings throughout the organization. 
  • Live the principles behind the Agile Manifesto and SAFe framework in all interactions and equip the team to do the same. 
  • Continually raise the bar on functionality, flow, consistency, usability, and simplicity. 
  • Stay abreast of industry/technology trends relevant to the Software Engineering discipline. 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field. 
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with complex software.
  • 5+ years of experience architecting/developing/maintaining cloud solutions in virtualized environments.
  • Working with Application Development and Performance Teams on Tuning Database components during the Design to Deployment phases in the areas of Oracle, MySQL and SQL Server.
  • In-depth knowledge of Cloud components (AWS platform) that include Databases, the underlying infrastructure, and related components
  • In-depth knowledge of Architecture, Performance & Tuning for Database engines like Oracle, MySQL ,Postgress and SQL server etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of Operating Systems Linux and Windows Servers ( Clusters etc)
  • 3+ years leading teams who achieve excellent test automation.
  • 3+ years experience operating runtime systems with high availability expectations.
  • 3+ years of software development management experience. 
  • 1+ years leading teams using Agile, Scrum, XP, or Kanban. 
  • Ability to learn a complex domain and the skills to present, discuss, and reason about the domain and its components with engineers, architects, and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to quickly understand and assess technical aspects of our products and components.
  • Ability to advise on best practices (architecture, implementation, team dynamics, automation, etc.).
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and work through technical differences to reach optimal solutions.
  • Ability to work with a minimal amount of direction. 
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills. 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Conversant with Infrastructure as Code, Configuration as Code, GitOps, Continuous Integration, Delivery and Deployment (CI/CD) practices and tools (GitHub, Jenkins, Atlantis, Ansible, Packer, Python, CloudFormation/Terraform, etc.).
  • Thorough understanding of AWS infrastructure and services including but not limited to RDS, EC2, Storage (EBS,EFS, S3), CloudWatch, Cloud Trail, ALB, Route 53, IAM, AWS Config, Secrets Manager  etc.
  • Traditional Database Technologies – Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL Server, PostGress
  • Big Data Technologies Exposure – No SQL Databases such as Cassandra, MongoDB
  • Excellent troubleshooting, and error analysis skills
  • Collaborative with a growth mindset.
  • Ability to motivate others. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, technical challenges, and cross-team dependencies.
  • Excellent coaching and mentoring skills. 
  • Active listening and respect for others’ opinions and ideas.
  • Ability to make decisions and to own the outcome. 
  • Proficient in Agile methodologies, including Scaled Agile Framework for Enterprises (SAFe)
  • Passion for delivering well-engineered software products.

 

 

Target Annual Salary Range: $ 128,505-183575. This Pay Target range includes a bonus target of 5% of base salary. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, education, training, and experience, as well as the position’s work location.
