A core member of our agile team, the Data Analyst (DA) works with customers, Product Management, the development teams, subject matter experts and other stakeholders to elicit and then translate customer requirements into functional requirements in a clear manner that enables user stories to be written for the team backlog. The DA contributes to the vision and refinement of the Team Backlog, serves as a contributor to story detail and priorities for each Program Iteration. The DA role requires an individual with strong collaborative skills who can work with technical and nontechnical stakeholders to continually ensure their team is executing the highest priority, value added work.

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

DA will join the EBSCO product team developing a next generation SaaS analytics product that collects, transforms, stores, and displays data from various customer information systems. Working with the development team & external software contractor teams, the DA is in the forefront of understanding customer information systems, data models, and metrics and translating those into requirements for the development team.  The DA manages much of the interaction with customers and helps manage the team backlogs by ensuring user stories are written adequately and that dependent work is also captured on other team's boards as well as other EBSCO ARTs as appropriate.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with stakeholders and subject matter experts to shape the vision and requirements of new platform components and features – Act an evangelist for the platform, sharing information both internally and externally to help ensure the success of the platform
  • Able to internalize broader platform strategy such that it informs platform specifications and feature priorities – Work with subject matter experts to understand personas, use cases, and market landscape
  • Elicits, analyzes, specifies, and validates the business needs of stakeholders, be they customers or end users
  • Collaborates with project sponsors to determine project scope and vision
  • Conducts interviews to gather customer requirements via workshops, questionnaires, surveys, site visits, workflow storyboards, use cases, scenarios, and other methods
  • Identifies and establishes scope and parameters of requirements analysis to define project impact, outcome criteria, and metrics
  • Works with stakeholders and project team to prioritize collected requirements
  • Researches, reviews, and analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of existing requirements-gathering processes and develop strategies for enhancing or further leveraging these processes.
  • Participates in the QA of the product to ensure features and functions have been enabled and optimized
  • Analyzes and verifies requirements for completeness, consistency, comprehensibility, feasibility, and conformity to standards
  • Develops and utilizes standard templates to accurately and concisely write requirements specifications
  • Translates conceptual customer requirements into functional requirements in a clear manner that is comprehensible to developers/project team
  • Creates process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to developers and/or the project team
  • Assists with the interpretation of customer requirements into feasible options, and communicating these back to the business stakeholders
  • Manages and tracks the status of requirements throughout the project lifecycle; enforce and redefine as necessary
  • Communicates changes, enhancements, and modifications of business requirements — verbally or through written documentation — to project managers, sponsors, and other stakeholders so that issues and solutions are understood

Required Experience

  • BA/BS required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with software development teams required
  • Minimum of 3 years experience directly or indirectly with higher education required
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with analytics, data, & statistics required
  • Proven experience with business and technical requirements analysis, elicitation, modeling, verification, and methodology development
  • Demonstrated project management skills and project management software skills, including planning, organizing, and managing resources
  • Effective presentation skills, outstanding written communication skills, able to inspire confidence of colleagues, and raise and answer key questions
  • Highly effective at working with remote colleagues, including across time zones and with varied cultural backgrounds

 

Preferred Experience

  • BS in business, analytics, library science, or information systems or related field preferred
  • Experience working with research library product platforms preferred
  • Expertise with Tableau preferred
