Position creates, implements, and facilitates service solutions to prospective customers. Position is responsible for generating and qualifying leads, facilitating completion of slip plan/technical service documents, writing proposals and negotiating pricing.  Responsible for sales activity for products/services including, but not limited to, approval/slip plans, continuation services, firm orders, technical services and Electronic Business and Information Services in a defined area.

  • Responsible for meeting/exceeding assigned goals of Company including sales, contribution margin and profitability within territory.
  • Plan, organize, coordinate and manage sales activities for Company services within an assigned geographic territory.  Prepare and deliver sales presentations.
  • Create, implement and manage the appropriate sales process utilizing internal resources including Customer Relationship Management software.  Track and follow up on sales leads until closing.
  • Prepare and deliver sales presentation to customers.  In collaboration with the Inside Sales Team, and/or Regional Managers jointly determine target accounts; establish two-way communication concerning customer requirements through all phases of the sales cycle.
  • Work the company Technical Services, Digital, Collection Development and other operational aspects to ensure customer requirements are understood, deadlines are met and customer satisfaction levels are maintained.
  • Work closely with Sales Management to provide necessary input for RFP, sales budgets and business plans.
  • Advise Sales Management regarding pricing/discounts recommendations for customer/targets within territory.
  • Coordinate with Sales Management and Marketing to plan and coordinate all marketing materials for trade shows.  Responsible for developing regional specific marketing campaign including group presentations and focus groups.
  • Communicate and assist in training internal departments on marketplace needs and how services provided by Company will fulfill customer requirements and needs.
  • Communicates all activities pertaining to territory, including market analysis and funding information, to management.
  • Develop and remain current on technical knowledge of industry
  • Active participation to sales meetings






Position requires overnight travel.  Overall travel is estimated at 60-80%.




  • BA/BS degree required.  MLS degree desirable. 
  • Successful sales/service experience serving needs of academic/research libraries and/or consortia
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (being a good listener, expressing oneself clearly)
  • Excellent knowledge of academic library market and higher education administration is highly desirable
  • Must be I.T. literate and proficient in Microsoft Office programs.                                               
  • Understanding of key business concepts, supply chains, distribution, customer service and emerging technologies
