Sr. Network Security Engineer


Located north of Boston, EBSCO Information Services (EIS) is widely recognized as the leader in providing innovative digital content delivery and the application of technology to transform the digital learning environment.  Our flagship product EBSCOhost is the world's most-used reference resource, supplying a fee-based online research service of full-text databases, eBooks, subject indexes, point-of-care medical references, and an array of historical digital archives.  EIS is searching for a Senior Network Security Engineer to help facilitate the transformation of all Customer-facing services and web application development environments to our AWS public cloud offerings.  The ideal candidate possesses an equal balance of skills and experience in both traditional on-premise and public (AWS) cloud-based network security engineering roles.  A strong DevSecOps Mindset is required (automation of routine tasks is our ultimate goal).   Specific roles include:

Network Security

Platform Security

  • Customer-facing Service Delivery Network (SDN) Security Monitoring and Protection
  • Customer-facing Web Application and Platform Architecture Security
  • Network Security Architecture/Engineering
  • Regulatory Compliance Engineering
  • Cyber Threat Intel Management
  • Cyber Incident Response Team (CIRT)


Reporting to the Director, Network and Platform Security (NPS), this senior network security engineering role will perform the following tasks.   Conduct network security assessments and risk analysis. Be available on a rotating basis to respond to incidents.  Recommend and install appropriate security products for both Public and Private cloud network platforms. Configure and maintain firewalls and other network security tools at enterprise scale as part of a global team. The work is both independent and collaborative in nature with opportunities to learn and deploy the latest technologies. This is a tremendous opportunity to contribute to complex and exciting aspects of optimizing and securing our Hybrid Architecture for the future.  Experience with AWS is desired, but the right candidate has an opportunity to learn and grown using the latest cloud technologies.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Architect/engineer high availability and automated failover architectures
  • Firewall Management (Traditional and WAF)
  • Incident Support (Logs and Evidence Gathering, Analysis of Evidence, Remediation)
  • Network design and optimization
  • Load Balancing and Traffic Shaping, DNS optimization


Role Based Competencies:

  • Expert knowledge of the security field from an engineering and operational perspective, and industry knowledge of security related products and services. 
  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate an equal balance of skills and experience in both traditional on-premise and public (AWS) cloud-based network security engineering roles.
  • Team player with strong delivery mindset, excellent consultative communication and negotiation skills, proven ability to work effectively with internal/external clients, vendors and consultants.
  • Ability to communicate equally effectively to Engineers, Product Managers, Sales, Customer Satisfaction, and Executives supported by metrics and analysis.
  • An expert foundation of information security and systems assurance in a large enterprise organization is required. 


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in technical or business discipline or equivalent experience;
  • 4-7 years of related experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • A solid understanding of securing AWS Public Cloud and Hybrid Cloud environments is highly desired.
  • AWS-specific skills (Networking: Route53, Direct Connect, etc.) and (Security: WAF, Config, CloudWatch, etc.)
  • Security Governance Certifications preferred (CISSP, CISM, CISA, CGEIT, CRISC)
  • Strong understanding of the Agile Development Framework
  • Strong, hands on technical expertise in the areas of information security architecture, network access controls, Security Event Management, intrusion detection & remediation and perimeter security.
  • Experience defining, implementing, and engineering network environments compliant with information security policies, procedures and standards.

Experience in Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accounting Act (HIPAA), Child Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), FEDRAMP, ISO 27001, Service Organization Controls
