Site Reliability Engineer

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) is a critical business function within the Reliability Engineering & Operations Org at EIS. The Site Reliability Engineer will play an important role in helping develop solutions that ingest application performance and error information, and transform it into software solutions that minimize frequency and impact of service disruptions. In addition to help implementing best practices in the realm of monitoring and alerting, the focus will be to also incorporate engineering mindset in solving some of the complex problems.

Primary Responsibilities:

This position will be responsible for the availability, performance, monitoring, and incident response, pertaining to the platforms and services that our organization runs and owns.

Following are some of the prime responsibilities:

  • Ability to develop and maintain complex software components and distributed systems.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience with monitoring, alerting, and reporting for production systems
  • Experience with clustering technologies - high availability and horizontal scaling
  • Familiar with OS tuning, optimization and system requirements for vertical scaling
  • Understanding of networking concepts and experience with HTTP protocol
  • Create and manage a continuous build, integration, test, and deployment systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communications.
  • Work with team and leadership to develop the long term Site Reliability Engineering road map.
  • Development - especially in projects that are complex, high visibility, or with technologies or solutions that are new to the team/system. This includes dealing with large data sets and ability to come up with solutions that can be optimally used by various teams/stakeholders.
  • Analyze trends to pro-actively prevent incidents..

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of demonstrated Site Reliability engineering experience
  • 3+ years of demonstrated Devops experience in private or public cloud (AWS) environments
  • 3+ years of Python, Bash, Perl, or ansible experience
  • 3+ years of experience with relational or no-SQL databases
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience with in field of networking
  • 2+ years of experience related to performance and best practices using industry standard monitoring tools like AppDynamics, AWS native solutions for Application performance Monitoring.  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong reading understanding of code-base and ability to decipher outcomes from it.
  • Build tools to improve visibility, pro-actively detect issues and restore system availability.
  • Configuration management and automation experience with Ansible, Python, and Boto
  • Expert with AWS services including IAM, Route53, Cloudwatch, CloudCustodian, etc
  • Experience in monitoring solutions like Prometheus, Grafana, Kibana, Datadog, or Kinesis Analytics
  • Security background and experience with IDS/IPS and DDOS mitigation
  • Experience crafting and improving CI/CD pipelines using GitHub, Docker and related technologies
