The mission of the Product Manager, Content Pipelines is to act as the operational Product Manager (PM) for Licensed Secondary Database (LSD) and journal content acquisition, processing, and support. S/he will work in a highly collaborative environment with Content Management leadership, Product Line Management, Agile Release Trains (ARTs), and development teams to advance EBSCO’s position as the leading discovery and research database provider worldwide. As Product Manager, s/he will be responsible for managing and supporting a team of EDS Content and Journal Product Owners as they prioritize and execute content loading projects, from concept to release. This includes helping to define requirements for high value projects, monitoring content pipeline KPIs, collaborating with Content Management leaderships on shared initiatives, removing blockers, coordinating handoffs with other teams, ensuring the team is delivering high quality loaded content to EBSCO’s customers, and contributing to the future of content at EBSCO. The Product Manager, Content Pipelines also oversees workflows and KPIs related to the triage and resolution of Service Issues (SI), the definition of defects/enhancements that may arise, the assignment of priorities to these problems based on market and customer data, and working with technical resources to resolve the issues. S/he will be part of the Journal and LSD Pipeline teams that operates in constant collaboration with content acquisition, content design, database production, customer satisfaction, and other content pipeline teams.

 

60 Day Objectives

  • Understands the goals, workflow, and operations of moving new content from data received through MFS to release.
  • Understands the goals, workflow, and operations of supporting existing EDS Databases and releasing new products, from data received from 3rd parties to release.
  • Support the development of ceremonies, policies, and responsibilities of the Journal Content Pipeline.
  • Support the existing ceremonies, policies, and responsibilities of the EDS Content Pipeline.
  • High-level understanding of the risks, limitations, and strengths of the EDS and Journal Content Pipeline value stream tools and infrastructure and current participation in on-ART request workflows.
  • High-level understanding of the function and roles of other departments who participate in the EDS and Journal Content Pipeline value streams, including Content Management, Product Management, Publishers, Database Production, and Publisher Content Management
  • Ensure Product Owners use accepted business systems for tracking projects and services issues
  • Support the documentation and communication of defects, workarounds, and process pain points for the Journal and EDS Content Pipeline workflows to Content Management and Product Management leadership
  • Knowledgeable on Agile methodology and the Content Pipeline value streams’ Scrum practices
  • Ensure the triage of 100% of new EDS and Journal Content SIs
    • At least 90% within 48hr of assignment
  • Understands the objectives of all direct reports and completes 3+ 1:1 meetings with direct reports.

 

90 Day Objectives

  • Ensure Product Owners collaborate with the EDS and Journal Content pipeline teams on planning, testing, and implementing continuous improvement strategies
  • Help to manage internal and external communications for new, in process, and completed EDS and Journal Content projects
  • Help to communicate with publishers regarding the implementation of their content in EBSCO databases
  • In-depth level of understanding of the function and roles of other departments who participate in the EDS and Journal Content Pipeline value stream.
  • Participate fully in the communication and prioritization of defects, workarounds, and process pain points for the Journal Content Pipeline Workflows for resolution on and/or off-ART.
  • High-level understanding of the function and roles of other departments who participate in LSD Pipeline value stream, including Content Management, Product Management, Publishers, Product Owners, Development, Database Production, and Publisher Content Management

 

180 Day Objectives

  • Conduct research online and in-house using independent judgment and initiative in order to answer research requests from Sales, Marketing, Customer Satisfaction, and Product Management.
  • Provide prompt and accurate responses to content inquiries from customers and internal teams
  • Sufficient level of technical background to be able to accurately and objectively evaluate more complex project risks and issues
  • Participate in a Shared Initiative, ideally as a Epic Owner
  • In-depth understanding of the risks, limitations, and strengths of the EDS and Journal Content Pipeline value stream tools and infrastructure, and ownership of the backlog of on-ART requests for the content pipelines.
  • High-level understanding on EBSCO Next progress and assist in defining future needs for content loading at EBSCO.
  • Complete professional development conversations with all direct reports.
  • Help team define goals and objectives for the upcoming half of the fiscal year, including any areas of additional training.

Required Qualifications :

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science, Computer Science, Business or related field of study.
  • Understanding of product development processes and working with teams in a Lean/Agile environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across the company.
  • Flexibility/Adaptability: Adjusts quickly to changing priorities and conditions, copes effectively with complexity and change.
  • Able to take initiative with confidence, knows when to ask for guidance.
  • 5+ years experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word
 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • 1+ year experience with Microsoft Access
  • Master’s Degree in a related field
  • Experience in agile software development, SAFe trained/experience
  • Comfortable using collaboration tools, e.g. MS teams, etc.
  • Passionate about developing and building great products.
