Your Opportunity

The Medical Copyeditor (MCE) is responsible for copyediting content for new and existing EBSCO Clinical Decisions point-of-care products, primarily DynaMed. The MCE is responsible for reviewing and editing medical content to ensure its accuracy and readability. A medical writing background is not required as the MCE corrects and enhances content across our medical products based on clearly stated style rules established by editorial policy. This remote position is U.S.-based only (excluding U.S. territories).

 

What You’ll Do (Primary Responsibilities)

  • Perform copyediting tasks that require varying degrees of critical analysis, problem-solving skills, and independent judgment, both independently and through collaboration with other members of the DynaMed/Clinical Decisions Editorial Team 
    • Copyedit new content and copyedit/update existing content for adherence to DynaMed/Clinical Decisions editorial style:
      • Edit according to house style guide and other style guides (e.g., AMA Manual of Style) as needed
      • Apply copyediting protocols according to context to improve content quality before online publishing
  • Communicate professionally with associate editors and writers/editors as needed to address issues impacting content
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of editorial policies and workflows that foster consistency across the database (including tag and template structure, editorial and scientific conventions, and writing style)
  • Maintain consistency in DynaMed/Clinical Decisions content by using and contributing to copyediting checklists and the Online Help System
    • Mastery of all steps/checklists in the MCE workflow
  • Actively participate in team discussions around style, writer feedback, and best practices
  • Perform advanced editorial and technical functions within medical topics written in XML format using established editorial policies
  • Contribute to efforts to update documentation (e.g., copyediting checklists)
  • Take ownership and/or assist with other projects and initiatives as assigned by manager

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Education, or related field
  • 1+ years of editorial experience      
  • Excellent language skills (especially grammar, editing, and writing) and analytical abilities
  • High attention to detail, love of minutiae, and “getting it right”
  • Aptitude to learn XML-based editing software; experience in XML editing a plus
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively   
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

 

What sets you apart

  • Demonstrated interest in copyediting
  • Experience in medical copyediting and proofreading
  • Understanding of industry standards, including familiarity with AMA Manual of Style guide
  • Experience with XML or content management systems
  • Knowledge of editorial style and processes
  • High computer literacy skills and aptitude to learn editing/content management software and perform related skills (such as tagging and linking)

Target Annual Compensation

Target Annual Compensation Range: $53,510-76,445. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, education, training, and experience, as well as the position’s work location.
