Health Editor/Writer- Full Time


The Consumer Health team creates evidence-based patient education material that is used as point-of-care tools for medical care centers and hospitals, and health library for corporations and libraries. Our consumer heath content may be use as a direct-to-consumer library for a variety of clients, or as patient education tools that compliment other EBSCO Health products.  

 

Our team needs a Health Editor/Writer with a background or interest in patient education, health and wellness, public health, or patient-provider communication. The ideal candidate will have strong understanding of health literacy, writing and editing experience, basic clinical knowledge, and a degree in a relevant field.


Health editors maintain and create evidence-based information for patient consumption. They research medical conditions and procedures, wellness information, current practice, and major recommendations to create patient-friendly documents. Health editors filter this complex medical information into easily digested articles and work with clinical reviewers from a variety of medical backgrounds to help meet provider needs. Editors are committed to helping patients better understand medical conditions or procedures and improve chances of active participation in care.  


 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Master preferred)
  • 3 years of writing experience related to patient education, health, and wellness that includes meeting health literacy guidelines, such as writing at 6th grade or below (or 1 year plus an advanced degree in a related field)
  • 1 year of relevant editing experience
  • Demonstrated ability to write patient-friendly material

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated initiative and a strong work ethic
  • 6 months of training or providing constructive feedback on editorial production
  • A strong desire to produce meaningful content, not just edit for style and format
  • Ability to self-manage multiple tasks and priorities within deadlines
