The Content Engineer plays a leadership role for EBSCOHealth regarding medical content creation, content integration, and content productization for the Medical publishing pipeline. He/She collaborates with medical editorial teams, product managers and development teams on key decisions to ensure content is consistent, scalable and “fit for purpose” across medical platforms, user interfaces and in support of integration partnerships. The Content Engineers must stay current with industry and competitive trends to inform decisions, and maintain and model content deliverables and processes for EBSCOHealth.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Product Managers, Software Developers, and Editorial teams to ensure that content supports key business features and aligns to product growth strategies
  • Work with Editorial and content stakeholders to develop and achieve long-term objectives for data/content architecture and quality
  • Work with Program team to identify medical market content management priorities, including new features and bug fixes
  • Define and communicate content and metadata structures and model the relationships among those structures
  • Identify content or content processing dependencies in support of new business features
  • Explain content structure and metadata requirements to development teams
  • Identify opportunities and efficiencies in content creation via content modeling and automated processes
  • Align content requirements and product needs with agile development cycles
  • Stays appraised of content, metadata standards and trends relevant to business and technology needs


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Information Management
  • 5+ years of experience working with metadata, taxonomies, ontology in support of content description and retrieval
  • 3+ years of experience working with public standards for content and metadata
  • 1+ year of experience with XML component content management applications and practices
  • 1+ year of experience with XML technologies such as XML editors and XSL software
  • 2+ years of experience in working with data formats for structured content, such as DITA, XML, XHTML, JSON, HTML5
  • 2+ years of experience working in a rapidly changing business environment


Preferred Qualifications

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in communicating with technical and non-technical staff
  • Experience with automated content conversion via XSLT or other scripting
  • Experience with Agile SAFe methodologies and ceremonies
  • 2+ years of experience in a production environment
