Involved in all aspects of Communications at EBSCO, the Communications Intern will help promote EBSCO products and services and will perform administrative tasks to support the Communications team’s efforts.

The Communications Intern will work with the team to educate him/herself on the marketplace and issues related to EBSCO, and assist in outreach to key influencers, customers and media to boost awareness of EBSCO products, news and initiatives. Responsibilities include leveraging existing social media and public relations tools to post content and press releases, writing content for blogs, press releases and social media, organizing and updating scheduled activities, and tracking and reporting on various communications efforts.

The Communications Intern will report to the Communications Director. As a member of the Communications team, the Communications Intern will work with other departments as needed on corporate communications, employee relations and represent the Marketing Department and Communications team at meetings as needed.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Administrative:
    • Assist in coordination of company-owned website updates using Drupal and Expression Engine
    • Schedule and post social media content on EBSCO-owned social media channels leveraging Sprout Social
    • Schedule and post blog content and press releases on the web and PRWeb
  • Media Relations:
    • Monitor media coverage for EBSCO/competitor mentions and manage media lists
    • Compile and track PR metrics and analytics leveraging Tableau
    • Update media lists for EBSCO announcements using Cision
    • Contribute to media relations planning for EBSCO announcements and research proactive PR opportunities
  • Social and Owned Media:
    • Monitor social media sites for EBSCO/competitor mentions
    • Draft content for EBSCO-owned social media channels
    • Draft blog posts as assigned
    • Contribute to social media plans for EBSCO announcements
    • Contribute to social media reporting and analytics measurement
    • Assist in the development of a social media editorial calendar for EBSCO-owned channels

 

Required Qualifications:

  • College degree in English, Journalism and/or Communications (completed or in progress)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous internship experience
  • Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills, including writing for the Web and writing social media messages, press releases
  • Working knowledge of social media outlets, tools and metrics
  • Awareness of current trends and competitive intelligence techniques
  • Experience with media relations databases such as Vocus or Cision, and social media tools such as Sprout Social
  • Industry-specific PR experience
  • Demonstrated ability to use social networking tools such as blogs and Twitter
  • Basic knowledge of Photoshop

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to function in Desk/office environment for 7+ hours per day
