Agile Development Manager

EBSCO Information Services has an exciting opening for an Agile Development Manager on the EBSCO Books & Flipster team working in the Contoocook, NH office.  This manager is a leader who guides, coaches and mentors software engineers in the design, development, delivery, and operations of premier book & e-book content solutions



Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage 2 functional development teams of 6-8 developers with focus on team culture, quality and operations.
  • Advocate quality through collaboration on test automation strategies and guidance of efforts to engineer quality into products.
  • Implement and maintain measurements across teams to monitor and sustain product quality.
  • Own the tracking of current cloud infrastructure costs, forecast cost increases, and drive cost savings efforts.
  • Implement operational capabilities to provide monitoring, alerting, and on-call rotation within the teams.
  • Ensure that operational performance meets expectations of SLA commitments.
  • Manage healthy build deployment pipelines to uphold high standards of CI/CD.
  • Interviewing and onboarding of new offshore contractors as needed.
  • Building onshore teams through recruiting, interviewing and onboarding engineering talent.
  • Work directly with teams and architects to participate in design and maintaining the architectural runway.
  • Ensure that vendor commitments are fulfilled per the terms of contractual agreements.
  • Work directly with product owners and business representatives to provide business solutions from inception to operation.
  • Be a guardian of world-class customer experience.
  • Stay abreast of industry/technology trends relevant to the Software Engineering discipline.
  • Regularly review team performance, collaborate with them on improvement initiatives/experiments (PDSA Cycle), and understand the data, team and workflow.
  • Review the performance of individual team members and provide effective coaching for improvement.
  • Cultivate and groom leaders.
  • Act as a servant leader to a team or a team of teams so that they are enabled to maximize the value they can deliver to the business.
  • Foster a growth mind-set in all employees.
  • Foster and enable software craftsmanship and innovation.
  • Advocate for the team and promote their successes, celebrate their failures, and share key learnings throughout the organization.

  • Live the principles behind the Agile Manifesto and SAFe framework in all interactions and equip the team to do the same.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years’ experience in software development
  • 3+ years’ experience as a senior team lead or manager in an agile SW development environment
  • 3+ years’ experience in lean/agile/Scrum/Kanban/SAFe
  • Proven track record in fostering, grooming, and growing self-governed teams
  • Proven track record in attracting new talent and retaining key talent
  • Experience in conflict resolution and coaching
  • Change management
  • Ability to quickly understand and assess technical aspects of our products and components
  • Ability to advise on best practices (architecture, implementation, team dynamics, etc.)
  • Superb communication and presentation skills


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Capable of contributing technically when necessary
  • Effective knowledge of software design patterns, algorithms, data structures and modern programming techniques
  • 2+ years’ experience with Cloud-based solutions and operations



Relevant experience would include:

  • Test automation strategy
  • DevOps solutions, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery (CI/CD)
  • Operational expertise for cloud-based solutions (AWS)
  • Database design and data architecture
  • Data pipeline and data ingestion systems
  • Microservices architecture
