The Database Operations (DBOPS) Analyst’s mission is to directly support product strategy, increased speed to market, and best practices in analytics and development for the Database Pipeline. They will do this by performing profiling metadata analysis and full text processing on content intended for EBSCOhost products, by implementing operational process improvements through automation scripts, Tableau reports, and emerging technologies, and by performing regular KPI analytics reviews. They will maintain a high level of professional and technical knowledge through continued professional development and will work to preserve institutional knowledge by actively encouraging thorough documentation and collaboration.

 

Primary Responsibilities 

Execute data profiling reporting on metadata and full text sources across database product lines in a high-volume environment, including applying big-data technologies as appropriate.

Help identify gaps in existing data profiling analysis capabilities and drive change to deliver needed tools and workflows in time for affected projects

Provide analytics and development support to Content Management-developed resources, including Tableau report development and coding support for internal web applications and their servers

Perform periodic process reviews of major Database Pipeline operational and health workflows through facts/data and identify new areas of opportunity and emerging technologies that could be leveraged to improve efficiencies, introduce automation, and support self-service analytics and development.

Help identify opportunities for customer-facing continuous improvement through deep analysis of data including items such as defect patterns and service issues

Help facilitate formulation and adoption of technical standards regarding data structuring across the organization.

Assist with the recording/automation of training sessions of common analytics items to be shared with stakeholders and embedded analysts, and used in onboarding new team members/preserving institutional knowledge

Support leadership and business teams with timely, recurring and ad-hoc reporting and analysis

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Analytics, computer Science, Information management or equivalent
  • 1 year or more performing data analysis to drive business and/or software development decisions
  • 1 year or more of Object Oriented development experience; python, php or JavaScript preferred
  • Proficiency in SQL
  • Comfortable using FTP software and Windows or Linux command line
  • Familiarity with industry standard data analysis, reporting tools and methods
  • Familiarity with MongoDB or a comparable big-data technology or familiar with NoSQL databases like Couch or Dynamo
  • Proficiency with MS office products to include Excel and Access

 

Preferred Qualificators

  • Familiarity with MySQL or Oracle database administration tasks
  • Familiarity with version control software, GitHub preferred
  • Experience maintaining and supporting OpenStack or other virtualized web-based servers (Apache experience a plus
  • 3+ years programming experience in Python, JavaScript, or PHP (familiarity with AngularJS or other MVC frameworks a plus) or full-stack programming
  • LEAN/Agile software development experience
  • Familiarity with Tableau software, D3.js, or other data visualization software
  • Familiarity with XML, JSON and standard bibliographic data formats including MARC21
  • Familiarity with AWS or other cloud platform

 

OBJECTIVES:

Within 30 days:

  • Learn the database pipeline value stream including for all 4 products (EDS, LSD, IR, CAT); attend daily stand ups and able to describe overall workflow, understand the key players, roles and responsibilities.
  • Onboard and train on data profiling analysis with the analyst team
  • Identify two areas of opportunity/improvement within the value stream or analysis domain
  • Obtain a list and information on Content Management tools and identify which Content Management tool (Tableau report, web application, automated reporting system) to become a back up on.

 

Within 60 days:

  • Drive and implement improvements identified
  • Share industry trends and best practice recommendations regularly
  • Contribute to and/or own internal documentation
  • Actively participate in the Content Management Enhancements workflow and support efforts to add or migrate documentation to the CM Dev, Reporting & Analytics SharePoint 365 repository
  • Complete training on at least 1 major Content Management tool best suited to your skillset (a Tableau report, web application, automated reporting system) and become a backup for said item
  • Obtain an understanding of SLS
  • Assist with special projects as needed

 

Within 90 days:

  • Proactively develop deep understanding of data profiling needs within the database value stream
  • Identify gaps in existing profiling analysis capabilities and drive change to deliver the needed support in time for affected projects
  • Review at least 1 emerging technology (either one newly adopted within EBSCO or something totally new) and propose ways it could be leveraged to improve operational efficiencies
  • Support establishing AWS-based data pipeline or similar as needed
